Marshall A. Dimick diaries, 1865-1909 (bulk: 1877-1909).

The bulk of this collection are the diaries that Marshall A. Dimick kept for the years 1877, 1884, 1890, 1899-1909. The diaries are quite detailed about his daily activities as a farmer. The yearly cycle of sugaring, planting, haying and harvesting, repairs to fences and buildings, swapping labor with others on projects, buying and selling of cattle, horses, sheep, etc., are described in great detail. At the end of each diary are detailed financial accounts of what he bought, what he earned, what he owed and was owed. The diaries say nothing about current events, whether state, national, or international. Some mention is made of his roles as a town lister, town grand juror, and license commissioner. His dealing with John C. Coolidge and some notes on Dimick family history are also included in the diaries. Other than the diaries, there are a number of papers relating to his efforts to get his Civil War pension, and later disability pension increases. Also, there are some Dimick deeds, various bills of sale, a few lister documents, and a few quite sad letters from his wife Sarah, speaking of their marriage as it was breaking up and her own mental problems.
